The Mountain Grrl Experience

For the Mountain Grrl Experience, I developed a complete visual identity and event materials rooted in Eastern Kentucky’s culture. My role spanned from creating custom illustrations and high-impact poster designs to crafting event merchandise, on-site banners and signage, and promotional social media graphics. By maintaining a unified aesthetic across both print and digital touchpoints, I helped build an immersive, cohesive brand experience for attendees from start to finish.

Branding & Illustration

Local Kentucky Roots

To ground the design in local pride, I showcased Eastern Kentucky’s roots by weaving iconic state symbols directly into the artwork. Featuring the Northern Cardinal (state bird), the Blackberry (state fruit), and the Goldenrod (state flower), these natural elements were integrated into the composition to give the piece a distinct regional identity and pay homage to the heart of the Mountain Grrl experience in Eastern Kentucky.

Honoring Appalachian Heritage

In Appalachian culture, quilting is more than an art form. It’s a living record of community, storytelling, and heritage passed down through generations.

To honor that tradition, I incorporated quilt block patterns into both the musician spotlight graphics and the festival tote bag design.

Poster Draft

To establish the base layout for the Mountain Grrl Experience poster, I brought together all the individual illustrated elements into a single composition. Combining the isolated graphics early on allowed me to test scale, balance, and spatial relationships before diving into fine details and color refinement.

Along with the Kentucky state symbols, it was important to incorporate the instruments and Appalachian landscape like the mountains.

final Poster

Moving from the initial layout to the final piece was all about harmony and hierarchy. I integrated the custom illustrations with the full artist lineup and event information, balancing typography and visual elements so the poster works both as an eye-catching art print and a functional event guide.

Fine-tuning the typography and color palette ensured that essential information remained clear and legible while maintaining the poster's artistic energy.
